We at John Wades have been carrying out demolition alongside our earthworks division for over 30 years throughout the North East of England and during this time have worked with many builders, construction companies, local authorities as well as private clients and are well known for our quality of work and dedication which is why many of our clients come back to us time and time again.
Demolition of the 18m high brick tower at Bishop Auckland fire station using a Komatsu 350 excavator with extended pole attachment.
John Wade himself started doing demolition with his cousin Albert Wade, and in those early days many of the buildings were demolished using a ball and chain.
Today the ball and chain has been replaced by a fleet of highly mechanised plant and machines with hydraulic attachments which can cut and eat their way through the toughest of steel and concrete.
Demolition material is then loaded into our tipper wagons or large 30 and 40 yrd skips where it is taken back to our Quarry at Aycliffe where it is largely recycled for further use.

Notable projects in the past include
- The demolition of Stockton Town Centre including the old Co-op building with its stone façade, to make way for the new Wellington Square Development
- Demolition of Bishop Auckland Hospital to make way for the new hospital.
- Demolition of the old college buidings at New College Durham prior to construction of the new college
In the early days many of the buildings demolished were located close to our facilities at Aycliffe but today we travel further a field and now undertake demolition projects throughout the North East of England. Our team is run by dedicated staff who are very experienced and we pride ourselves in ensuring our clients get value for money with the minimum of stress and fuss.
Whilst John Wade himself may not be found on the sites, he still keeps a keen interest in the projects and is willing to offer his advice whenever it is needed.
In this day and age where health and safety is paramount, we are proud of our track record and take these issues very seriously.
We put a lot of effort into H&S training and work very closely with our clients to ensure accidents are prevented.
As a CHAS registered company, accredited to Constructionline, we work with clients affiliated to the The Major Contractors Group (MCG) of Companies and are pleased to have attained preferred sub-contractor status with many of them.
Other clients include Local Authorities and contractors outside of the MCG all of whom have equally stringent procedures to be met.
Situated just off junction 59 of the A1m motorway we are ideally placed to serve the North East of England especially the regions of County Durham, Teesside and parts of North Yorkshire.
Our facilities at Aycliffe are open every day of the year (excluding bank holidays) and the roads in and out of the quarry are rarely closed meaning we are open all year round.
